After an early breakfast, you’ll prepare for the highlight of your safari—gorilla trekking. Your guide will accompany you to the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers, who will outline safety protocols and trekking guidelines to ensure a responsible encounter with the mountain gorillas. You’ll then set off into the dense jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The trek can vary in duration, taking anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family you are assigned to track. Enjoy a delicious lunch and consider participating in optional activities, such as a nature walk or a visit to a local Batwa community.
After breakfast, you’ll head to Lake Mutanda, a stunning freshwater lake surrounded by lush hills and picturesque landscapes. Engage in activities such as canoeing or taking a boat ride to explore the tranquil waters, with breathtaking views of the Virunga Mountains as your backdrop. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the local culture through a community visit. You may have the opportunity to engage with local artisans, learn about traditional crafts, or join in a cultural dance, providing a deeper understanding of the customs and lifestyles of the local communities. Return to your lodge for dinner and enjoy the stunning sunset over Lake Mutanda, reflecting on the day’s experiences.
