Itinerary
Upon your arrival in Kisoro, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide, who will transfer you to your accommodation near Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Kisoro is a charming town located in the southwestern part of Uganda, known for its stunning landscapes and proximity to the Virunga Mountains. Enjoy the scenic drive as you pass through terraced hills, lush valleys, and picturesque views of the surrounding volcanoes.
The highlight of your safari begins on Day 2 with an early morning breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. After receiving guidelines about gorilla trekking, you will be assigned a gorilla family to track. Trekking through the dense rainforest and bamboo forests of Mgahinga, you will immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the park. The hike can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas, but the experience is well worth the effort.
Once you find the gorillas, you will have the rare opportunity to spend an hour observing and photographing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Watch them as they interact, feed, and move through the forest. This once-in-a-lifetime encounter will leave you in awe of their close resemblance to humans.
After the trek, return to your lodge for relaxation and reflection on the incredible experience.
On Day 3, prepare for another unique wildlife experience—tracking the endangered golden monkeys. After breakfast, you will head back to the park for a briefing and begin your trek through the bamboo forests. The golden monkeys are playful and energetic, offering a lively contrast to the calm demeanor of the gorillas. You’ll have ample time to observe their behavior, take photos, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
After the golden monkey trek, you can explore the cultural richness of the area by visiting the Batwa community. The Batwa people are indigenous forest dwellers who lived harmoniously with the wildlife for centuries before the park's establishment. A visit to their community offers insight into their traditional lifestyle, hunting techniques, and intimate knowledge of the forest.
Return to your lodge for an evening of relaxation and dinner.
After breakfast on the final day, you will check out and begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, passing through the rolling hills and lush landscapes of southwestern Uganda. Depending on your time, you may stop at the equator for photos and souvenirs or enjoy the scenic views of Lake Bunyonyi along the way.
By the end of your 4-day adventure, you will have created memories of close wildlife encounters, cultural experiences, and the unparalleled beauty of Uganda's wilderness.
